/ Championship Regulations

 

Participating Conditions

 

  1. All national Federations/Committees duly affiliated to FILA can participate in the Championship. If no national grappling structure is recognized by FILA, individual entries will be accepted.
  2. Countries may enter as many grapplers per category as they wish. For the countries in which a national grappling structure is recognized by FILA, only entries subitted by the national Federation/Committee will be accepted.
  3. Each competitor must provide a valid FILA licence and passport. Those who did not purchase their licence in advance will be able to do so at accreditation. They will be asked to show their passport, provide a picture and pay the annual licence fee of 100 CHF, 100 USD or 80 EUR.
  4. Each competitor must be 20 or older in the current year. Grapplers aged 18 and 19 will be allowed to participate upon presentation of a medical consent. Age and nationality will be checked with the passport at weigh-in.
  5. Final entries (Gi and No-Gi)must be returned before 20 November 2008.
  6. The delegations that require a visa to enter Switzerland must send their visa application form to the organizer and contact the Swiss embassy or consulate in their country of residence. The organizer will send individual invitations if the embassy concerned requires them.
  7. The final list of competitors must be presented to the competition secretariat on 19 December before 3 p.m.
  8. In addition to the competitors, the official delegation for each style can include 3 officials (team leader, coach, masseur or doctor).
  9. The official delegations and the referees will benefit from an accommodation fee of 130 CHF per day, including board, lodging, local transport, and entry to the competition. Upon agreement with the organizer, it will be possible for the delegations to transfer the total amount of accommodation fees to the organizer's bank account. Otherwise, the team leaders will have to settle their dues cash at accreditation.
  10. The daily accommodation fee for additional members of the delegations (in reference to article 8 above) and for the delegations that submit their entries after 20 November 2008 will be 150 CHF.
  11. For the delegations that choose to book their own accommodation, an entry fee of 50 CHF per style will be asked to each competitor.
  12. The accreditation holders will benefit from free local transport, permanent entry to the competition, and free access to the after party.
  13. In conformity with the FILA Regulations, each team that has been entered but does not turn up, or turns up with fewer competiors or accompanying members than originally announced, will be held responsible and will have to pay half of the accommodation fees for all individuals previously entered.
  14. The team leaders will be held responsible for any damage incurred by members of their delegation during their stay.
  15. All the delegations must arrive a maximum of 48 hours before the competition and leave at the latest at noon on the day after the end of the Championship.
  16. The teams will be welcome by the organizing committee upon their arrival at Zurich International Airport and will be guided to the train station which is located in the airport. The ride between Zurich and Lucerne takes approximately 45 minutes.
  17. A shuttle service will transport those accredited from the railway station to the hotels and from the hotels to the competition venue.   

 

Technical Conditions

 

  1. The competition will take place on 4 new Foeldeak mats.
  2. The competition will take place in the official FILA weight categories:

    Men: 62-70-80-92-125 kg
    Women: 48-55-63-72 kg
  3. No weight allowance will be accepted.
  4. Each competitor will be required to wear a FILA approved competition uniform:

    No-Gi: Tight or board shorts and a tight fitting sleeveless, short-sleeve, or long-sleeve rashguard. The first grappler called shall put a red ankle-band and the second a blue ankle-band.

    Gi: The Gi (kimono) must be made of cotton or similar material and in good condition. It may not be unusually thick or stiff to the point of obstructing the opponent. The jacket must be longer than the hips, but not longer than the thighs. When extending the arms forward, the distance between the sleeves and the wrists must not exceed 5 cm. The pants must be of the proper size and reach to the ankles in upright position. The Gi may be of any color and the first grappler called shall wear a red belt and the second a blue belt.
  5. The use of light kneepads containing no metal parts is allowed.
  6. The grapplers shall wear a handkerchief and show it to the referee before the beginning of the match.
  7. The competitors shall wear their country's emblem on their competition shorts/pants and their country's abbreviation on their shirts/jackets. They shall not wear the emblem or abbreviation of a country for which they are not officially competing.
  8. Each competitor will be allowed to participate in the Gi and No-Gi competitions.
  9. Each competitor must undergo a medical check before the official weigh-in. 
  10. The FILA licence covers medical assistance in the event of an accident occuring during the competition, as provided for in the insurance contract. If a grappler wishes to have a medical examination or receive a treatment that is not linked to an accident that happened during the competition, the related costs will be borne by he/she or by his/her National Federation.
  11. Anti-doping tests will be randomly organized among all medallists. The samples will be analyzed by an IOC approved laboratory. Grapplers who refuse tests will be considered positive and will lose their title and medal.

 

Prizes

 

  1. 1st place  : Gold medal and certificate
    2nd place : Silver medal and certificate
    3rd places: 2 Bronze medals and certificates
    5th-10th places: Certificates
  2. Cash prizes will be awarded to all World Champions.
  3. The first three teams in each style will receive a cup.

 

Referees

 

  1. Only the FILA referees who have passed one of the two referees' preparation course in 2008 will be allowed to work in the competition.
  2. The referees must hold a valid FILA licence.
  3. The referees must attend the conference that will be organized on 19 December from 1 to 3 p.m.
  4. All referees must wear the official FILA uniform.

 

Official Ceremonies

 

  1. Each participating team must be present at the Opening Ceremony according to the organizer's instructions.
  2. The national anthem will be played for each individual and team champion.

 

Journalists, Television & Video recording

 

  1. Media accreditation forms must be sent to the organizer by 10 December 2008.
  2. Journalists are responsible for their own accommodation. However, hotels can be suggested by the organizer if asked for in advance.
  3. A press centre comprising all the necessary equipment will be made available to the accredited journalists during the Championship.
  4. No video recording of the competition will be allowed. Video cameras will not be accepted in the competition venue.
  5. Television companies wishing to broadcast the event must sign a contract with the organizing committee, be accredited and have paid the amount agreed upon in order to receive a unilateral position or obtain images from the recording of the host broadcaster.
